Awakening it is perhaps the most important step of our human journey.<\/p>\n<p>As we awaken our awareness in meditation and self-inquiry, the path of the heart introduces another key ingredient: prayer.<\/p>\n<p>Without true devotion, awakening the heart is not possible. Devotion is like the river's longing to return to the ocean. The power that drives the river is the power of love.<\/p>\n<p>A true prayer is an expression of this longing and love.<\/p>\n<p>This is what makes prayer a central part of contemplative practice in Christian mysticism. But how do we pray in a way that awakens the heart?
